Measure wine on the ‘pinot g’ spectrum at the T’Gallant cellar door, stay for a trattoria lunch or visit the bar for wood-fired Roman-style pizza.
After more than a decade T’Gallant Winemakers, incorporating La Baracca Trattoria and Spuntino Bar, are most certainly an institution.
Arrive with a voracious appetite and as you enter the courtyard you will probably detect an aroma wafting through which might be the scent of olive oil and rosemary. You will happily surrender to the pleasures of the table, as this is arguably the most deliciously unique destination on the Peninsula road map.

History of T’Gallant Winemakers
Founded by Mornington Peninsula pioneer Kevin McCarthy, T’Gallant has a storied history. In his days as a student at famed Roseworthy College, Kevin studied with fellow classmates that included Huon Hooke, Gordan Gebbie, Peter Douglas and Murray Smith.
After graduating, Kevin headed to Queensland where he managed wineries in the Granite Belt region, producing Shiraz and Chardonnay varietals. Kevin later relocated to Victoria and worked for James Halliday in the Yarra Valley making wines from 1986 – 1988 before he moved to Mornington Peninsula.
Drawing inspiration from tours of the wine regions of Friuli in Italy and Alsace in France, Kevin and Kathleen established three Pinot Gris vineyards under contract which would be their starting point for founding T’Gallant in 1990. This move was bold in the wine world and met with immediate condemnation, in contrast to the established success where T’Gallant became Australia’s leader in this cool climate grape variety.
Today, more than 50 wineries on the Mornington Peninsula produce a Pinot Gris or Pinot Grigio and 140 hectares are shaded by Pinot Gris vines. Led by Kevin’s talented winemaking expertise, since our inception T’Gallant has proudly crafted wines that are both artisan and pure. While Kevin has recently left T’Gallant to pursue a family winery business with his wife Kathleen, at T’Gallant we continue to make wines in this spirit and vision.
Notable recent recognition includes T’Gallant receiving key ratings in the James Halliday 2015 edition of the Wine Companion. We were proud to be awarded 95 points for the Tribute Pinot Noir 2012, 92 points for the Cape Schanck Pinot Noir 2012, 91 points for the Cape Schanck Pinot Grigio 2013, and 90 points for the Imogen Pinot Gris 2013. In addition, our 2012 Odysseus was awarded the Best Nebbiolo Trophy at the 2014 Australian Alternative Wine Show.
